Chamomile was brewed for children not only for pain, but for sorrow. Lemon balm lifted the spirits of mourners and new travellers longing for home. Black pepper, crushed lightly, was burned or infused to release emotions held too tightly in the ribs.
This essence was prepared for those who could not cry, who apologized for their sadness, or who held tension until the body ached. It does not create grief - it allows emotion to move, and honours tears as medicine.
Chamomile softens the guard. Lemon balm brings relief. Pepper cracks the pressure that kept tears trapped.
Ingredients (120 ml)
Botanicals
✶ 1 tbsp dried chamomile flowers
✶ 1 tsp lemon balm (dried)
✶ 2-3 crushed black peppercorns
✶ Optional: thin strip of lemon peel (clarity)
Alcohol Base
✶ 150 ml pear eau-de-vie
gentle, fruit-bright, helps emotions move without force
Non-Alcohol Base
✶ 120 ml chamomile tea (cooled) or apple cider vinegar
✶ ½-1 tsp raw honey
Especially supportive for emotional release
The Preparation
✶ Combine chamomile, lemon balm, pepper, and peel (if used).
✶ Cover fully with chosen base.
✶ Wrap in soft cloth or handkerchief - something used to catch tears.
✶ Steep 21-28 days, shaking gently every few days.
✶ Strain into a dark bottle.
Honey is added after straining, only in non-alcohol base.
How to Use
For heaviness, withheld tears, emotional pressure in the ribs, overwhelmed hearts, grief, guilt around
crying, and stress that cannot release.
✶ 2 drops under tongue
✶ Add 1-2 drops to warm tea
✶ Massage 1 drop over ribs or chest
✶ Add 2-4 drops to bath for emotional cleansing
✶ Use before journaling, prayer, or grieving rituals
