STILL AIR CRAFT VIII
EVENING BATH
Rest • Cleansing • Softening
────────── 𓆸 ──────────
Supports physical unwinding, nervous system softening, and gentle closure of the day.
INGREDIENTS
(Small batch - approx. 20 hand-rolled sticks)
Primary Materials
• Hinoki wood powder - 1½ tsp
• Makko powder - 2 tsp
Supporting Materials
• Sandalwood powder - ½ tsp
• Paper fibre powder (washi or rice paper) - ¼ tsp
No essential oils.
Hinoki carries the bathing association through material memory, not fragrance.
TOOLS REQUIRED
• Stone mortar and pestle
• Fine mesh sieve
• Ceramic or glass mixing bowl
• Measuring spoons
• Distilled water
• Wooden board or tray
• Baking paper or unbleached cloth
• Damp cloth
• Airtight storage container
PREPARATION
Refining the Woods
Place hinoki and sandalwood powders into the mortar.
Grind slowly until fine and even.
Add paper fibre powder last and grind gently to integrate.
Sift through a fine mesh sieve.
Return coarse particles to the mortar and repeat.
Evening incense must be smooth and soft to burn quietly.
DRY BLENDING
Combine in a bowl:
• Hinoki powder
• Sandalwood powder
• Paper fibre powder
• Makko powder
Mix thoroughly until completely uniform.
The blend should be pale beige with a warm, softened tone.
ADDING WATER
Add distilled water slowly, mixing gently after each addition.
The dough should become:
• Soft
• Supple
• Slightly warm to the touch
• Flexible without sticking
Avoid rushing - this incense benefits from calm preparation.
RESTING THE DOUGH
Cover with a damp cloth.
Rest for approx. 15 minutes.
This allows the woods and binder to soften into a unified dough.
HAND-ROLLING
Pinch a small amount of dough.
Roll gently into thin ropes:
• 2-3 mm thick
• 8-10 cm long
Pressure should be light and even.
Evening Bath should look relaxed and gentle, not tightly formed.
If surface cracks appear, lightly dampen fingertips and smooth once.
Do not compress - this incense should remain breathable.
DRYING
Place sticks on baking paper or cloth.
Dry in a shaded, calm space:
• No sunlight
• No artificial heat
Drying time: 4-6 days.
Turn once daily.
CURING
Once fully dry, store in an airtight container for 3-4 weeks.
This allows warm wood notes to mellow and soften fully.
HOW TO BURN
• Burn on a mica plate or ash bed
• Break into shorter pieces if desired
• Best burned after bathing or before sleep
This incense accompanies rest rather than thought.
