STILL AIR CRAFT III

TEMPLE WOOD

Threshold • Respect • Stillness

────────── 𓆸 ──────────

Supports intentional transition, grounded presence, and calm entry into stillness.

INGREDIENTS

(Small batch - approx. 20 hand-rolled sticks)

Primary Materials
• Hinoki wood powder - 1½ tsp
• Makko powder - 2 tsp

Supporting Materials
• Cedarwood powder - ½ tsp
• Paper fibre powder (washi or rice paper) - ¼ tsp

Use true, untreated wood powders only.
No essential oils.

TOOLS REQUIRED

• Stone mortar and pestle
• Fine mesh sieve
• Ceramic or glass mixing bowl
• Measuring spoons
• Distilled water
• Wooden board or tray
• Baking paper or unbleached cloth
• Damp cloth
• Airtight storage container

PREPARATION

Refining the Woods
Place hinoki and cedarwood powders into the mortar.
Grind slowly until fully integrated and very fine.

Sift through a fine mesh sieve.
Return coarse fibres to the mortar and repeat.

Wood powders must be soft to burn evenly and quietly.

DRY BLENDING

Combine in a bowl:
• Hinoki powder
• Cedarwood powder
• Makko powder
• Paper fibre powder

Mix thoroughly until the colour and texture are completely uniform.

The blend should be pale beige with no visible fibres.

ADDING WATER

Add distilled water drop by drop, kneading gently after each addition.

The dough should become:
• Smooth
• Flexible
• Slightly cool to the touch
• Neither sticky nor crumbly

If the dough resists shaping → add a few drops of water
If it becomes glossy → allow it to rest uncovered briefly

RESTING THE DOUGH

Cover with a damp cloth.
Rest for 10-15 minutes.

This ensures proper binding and a calm, even burn.

HAND-ROLLING

Pinch a grape-sized amount of dough.
Roll gently into thin ropes:

• 2-3 mm thick
• 8-10 cm long

Pressure should be light and consistent.

Temple Wood should look clean and composed, not decorative.

If small cracks appear, lightly dampen fingertips and smooth gently.
Avoid overworking - restraint is part of the practice.

DRYING

Lay sticks on baking paper or cloth.

Dry in a shaded, well-ventilated space:

• No sunlight
• No artificial heat

Drying time: 4-6 days.
Turn once daily.

Wood-based incense benefits from slow drying.

CURING

Once fully dry, store in an airtight container for 3-4 weeks.

This allows the woods to soften and the scent to settle and round.

HOW TO BURN

• Burn on a mica plate or ash bed
• Break into shorter pieces if desired

• Best used at transitions: before meditation, before rest, before ritual

This incense prepares space rather than filling it.

WHY THIS FITS THE STILL AIR COLLECTION

  • Clear threshold energy

  • Calm, architectural structure

  • No excess scent or symbolism

  • Craft present but contained
