The Traveller’s Cycle

There are journeys where the body follows its own calendar, unbothered by trains, borders, or schedules.
Bleeding comes in unfamiliar beds, cramps tighten during long walks, mood shifts when the world expects steadiness, and

comfort is far from reach. This tincture was made for women travelling with their cycle -

so the road can continue without abandoning the body’s needs.

A companion for cramping, mood dips, breast tenderness, irritability, and the fatigue of monthly pain.

The Caravan Moon Tincture

Menstrual Comfort • Hormonal Balance • Cramp & Mood Relief

Old-World Origin

Along the routes where women travelled as traders, healers, mothers, and caravan leaders, menstrual aids

were part of the apothecary, not an afterthought.

Herbalists steeped:

  • Cramp bark for uterine relaxation

  • Motherwort for mood steadiness + circulation

  • Raspberry leaf to tone + support the womb

  • Fennel + anise for soothing digestive discomfort

  • Rose petals to soften emotional irritability

These were not hidden remedies.
They were shared openly - because women who travelled needed strength as much as any man.

Ingredients (120 ml)

Cycle Support Herbs
✶ ½ tsp cramp bark (or substitute meadowsweet if unavailable)
✶ 1 tsp dried raspberry leaf
✶ ½ tsp dried motherwort
✶ ½ tsp anise seed (or fennel seed)
✶ 1 tsp dried rose petals

Alcohol Base
✶ 150 ml red-fruit eau-de-vie (raspberry, cherry, or plum)
-or-
✶ 150 ml soft botanical gin (not citrus heavy)

Non-Alcoholic Base
✶ Raw apple cider vinegar
✶ ½ tsp honey or date honey (optional, for sweetness + comfort)

The Preparation

Add all herbs and seeds to a clean jar.
Pour eau-de-vie or vinegar base over the mixture until submerged.

Seal and lightly wrap with red or plum-toned cloth - historically, cycle remedies were wrapped

in “moon colours” (deep reds, berries, rose-tinted hues).

Steep in a dark place for 28 days, shaking gently every 3-4 days.
Strain through muslin, bottle in amber glass, and mark with a crescent moon or simple curved line.

How to Use

✶ 3-5 drops in warm water during cramps
✶ 2-3 drops under the tongue at onset of irritability
✶ 4 drops in tea before bed for emotional steadiness
✶ Rub 1 drop over lower abdomen with warm palms (optional blend with oil)

Symbolism

✶ Cramp Bark - loosening the tight womb, release of tension
✶ Raspberry Leaf - strength of the uterus, steady cycles
✶ Motherwort - emotional calm, “lion-hearted mother” support
✶ Anise/Fennel - softening bloating + cramps linked to digestion
✶ Rose - gentle mood balm, emotional openness
✶ Red-Fruit Spirits - woman’s blood honoured, not hidden

Intention

May your body feel supported,
your cycle feel respected,
and your journey continue with softness and strength intertwined.

Author’s Note

"I created this tincture for myself first,
because travelling during my cycle taught me that comfort must not wait for home.
It became a way to honour the body on the road."
